Where are my Skype images saved ?

I've recently ran into this issue when trying to finally set up an avatar for all of my social networks/userid's. I knew that Skype would let you take screenshots of yourself if you have a camera: Tools > Options > General > video settings > Take a video snapshot however I couldn't really use the image on anything else but Skype since I didn't know where skype saved pics. I'd rather have the same avatar across the board so I did a little research.

Here is how to find your Skype images on your computer. First Make sure you can see hidden files and folders. To check this you will have to go to Control Panel > Folder Options > Click on the View Tab > Under the Hidden files and folders section make sure that > Show hidden files, folders, and drives is selected.

Now the very intuitive ;) location of your images is in this previously hidden folder:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Skype\Pictures
Of coures replace YOURUSERNAME with your user name :)

Pretty easy if you know the right steps to take. Now I'm sure you don't want to have to remeber that ridiculous location every time you want to look though those pictures. My suggestion would be to create a shortcut to it. You can easily do this by first browsing to the desired location IE: Pictures folder or wherever you'd like and then right-click on empty space > New > Shortcut For location use: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Skype\Pictures > Next > Name it > Finish Having this setup seems a lot more logical for me and you apparently not yet for Skype.

  1. Hi Mike and Bobo,

Thank you for the “Command+Shift+4″ shortcut. I did not know about it. There is also a way around to capture the picture from where it is saved now:

    Edit Profile
    Change… {picture}
    Recent Pictures
    {There will be all the pictures taken by the webcam through Skype, the only access to the undisclosed location of the pictures}

    command+c
then paste to word or somewhere else…

But, I didn’t find the actual location of the pictures :( .

    Bobo,
I checked the Finder > Photo Booth >
    no skype pictures there…

    Natalie

  2. Got it via Michal:
    Library/Images/iChat Recent Pictures
    Cheers

  3. thank you very very very much. After three hours surfing the net looking for the answer you have finally given me the right one. Everybody takes for granted that the folder ‘pictures’ can be viewed.

  13. @koti You are very welcome. That’s exactly why I wrote it; to help people out :D Happy you liked it

  14. @Tasha,

Don’t even worry about it. There was a time when I didnt’ know either. The easyest way to get there is to go to:

Start then click on My Computer or (Computer in Windows 7) then in this new window you will see something like Local Disk (C:) that is your main hard-drive C: Double click on it to open it up. From this point forward you can follow the path. For Example:

    C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Skype\Pictures

So you are in C: next you need to go into the Users folder so double click on it next you need to go into your username folder this should be the same as the username you use to log in to your machine and then just keep following the path those are all folder names :D Let me know if you get lost or if you succeed.

  35. Okay…I was sitting here reading this article. I tried it. It didn’t work. I tried some more suggestions on here. Didn’t work. SO. I was looking around….and DING a bell went off in my head. I right clicked them and pressed “Save As”. I went to “Libraries” then “Pictures”. Next I made a folder called “Skype Pictures” and saved the snapshot to it. It worked. I could then upload them to facebook! :D Sure it takes a bit of time….but they’re saved!! [Ohh... By the way....I have Window's 7 on my computer] Hope this helps for people like me :P

  36. Man You Are A F*&$ing Genius!!!!!!! Thank you so much man!!

  37. Thank you so much for this! You are the first person to put it in words that we can all understand! Again, thank you!

  38. @ Chantelle you are Welcome.

  39. @ Joe you are Welcome.

  40. This didn’t work for me!! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!!

  41. @Amanda,

Lets start with what you tried and where you got…

  42. My user name isnt in there after I go to users….I clicked on show hidden folders and all of that, I just cant seem to find them!

  43. ok I was looking for my Skype user name not my computer one!! its just under the admin computer name. Answered my own question lol

Thank you for all of the help Mike…I never would have found them without you!

  44. @Tiffany, yes that is correct I was referring to your Windows username. I assumed it would have been obvious based on the context only having windows usernames in that folder.

  45. I can’t find “Folder Options” in my Control Panel?

  46. @Sara two things you can try:

    1. Left click once on any application in that folder and then auto-highlight anything that starts with F (as in folder) by pressing the f key on your keyboard repeatedly.

    2. If you have a little search bar in the top right type: Folder in it and hit enter.

Let me know how that works out for you.

  47. im using windows 7 and theres no folder called AppData in my folder..

  48. @bitbit Read some of the other replies from what I remember there are a few talking about Windows 7. This tutorial should work for most if followed correctly. However here is an example of someone posting an alternate way:

“Grace: Okay…I was sitting here reading this article. I tried it. It didn’t work. I tried some more suggestions on here. Didn’t work. SO. I was looking around….and DING a bell went off in my head. I right clicked them and pressed “Save As”. I went to “Libraries” then “Pictures”.
